I Brought My Baby to Work to Save Our Lives, But I Never Expected This Moment to Change Everything

A Glimmer of Hope

Everett looked down at Elodie, her tiny fingers curling around his shirt. “Brielle,” he said, his tone surprisingly warm, “you don’t have to worry. I understand how tough it’s been for you.”

Brielle’s heart pounded. “You know?”

“Yes,” he nodded, leaning back slightly, “and I’d like to help. You can bring Elodie to work whenever you need. We’ll figure something out.”

Hope flickered in her chest, but apprehension quickly followed. “Why are you being so generous?”

Rochelle’s expression twisted, eyes narrowing. “Don’t be fooled, Brielle. This isn’t charity. It’s a setup.”

“I’m serious,” Everett interjected, his voice firm. “I want to accommodate you without jeopardizing your position here. You’re a valued employee.”

Brielle swallowed hard, uncertainty clawing at her. “What’s the catch?”

Rochelle rolled her eyes. “You think he did this out of the goodness of his heart? There are always strings attached in this industry.”

But Everett’s gaze remained steady, unfaltering under the weight of Rochelle’s disdain. “No strings, Brielle. I promise you.”

Rochelle huffed, her arms crossed tight against her chest. “This doesn’t sit right with me, Everett.”

“This is not your decision, Rochelle.” The strength in Everett’s voice was a balm, yet Brielle couldn’t shake the nagging doubt. What if there was a hidden agenda?

The Unexpected Arrival

Just as Brielle began to ponder Everett’s offer, the restaurant door swung open with a bang, and there stood Jordan. His face was flushed, anger radiating from him as he stormed toward her. “Where is she?”

“Jordan, please, not now!” Brielle pleaded, her heart sinking as the tension in the air thickened.

He stopped just short of her, eyes wild. “I want to see Elodie! You can’t just hide her from me.”

Brielle’s chest tightened. “I’m not hiding her! I brought her with me because I had no choice!”

Jordan laughed bitterly, the sound grating against her nerves. “Choice? You think this is a choice? You’re an unfit mother!”

“What do you know about being a parent? You disappeared!” Brielle shot back, her voice rising, trembling with pent-up frustration.

“Someone has to look out for our daughter, and it isn’t going to be you!” He stepped closer, raising a hand as if to reach for Elodie.

Brielle’s throat tightened. “Don’t you dare come near her!”

Just as the words left her lips, Jordan lunged forward. “I need to see her!”

Brielle screamed, a raw sound fueled by desperation, as she felt a surge of panic. Elodie stirred in Everett’s arms, wide-eyed and confused.

In the chaos, a sudden hush swept through the restaurant, everyone’s eyes glued to the scene unfolding before them.

And then, Brielle caught a glimpse of Rochelle, whispering urgently to Jordan. “We have to act quickly. If we wait much longer, she might fight back.”

Brielle’s heart dropped, realization crashing down on her. They were plotting, conspiring right before her eyes. Fear settled in her gut. What were they planning?
