I Packed My Son’s Things and Vanished While He Showered His Mistress with Diamonds

Safe Haven

With Ethan’s hand clasped tightly in mine, I led him away from the empty house. Each step felt both liberating and terrifying. I glanced back one last time, my heart racing as the memories of our life together engulfed me. Would he understand?

“Mom, where’s Dad?” Ethan asked, his voice barely above a whisper, laced with confusion.

“He… he’s busy right now,” I replied, forcing a smile for his sake. “But we’re going to have some fun, just the two of us.”

We settled in a small, unassuming safe location Victoria had arranged—a cozy, cramped apartment that felt worlds away from our former life. Victoria greeted us with a nod, her expression serious yet reassuring.

“You made the right choice, Teresa. Now we can finally take control,” she said, gesturing for us to sit at the tiny kitchen table.

My limbs trembled slightly, a mix of relief and anxiety coursing through me. I poured Ethan some juice, my hands shaking just a little. The plan was in motion. I had to focus.

“Is Dad going to come find us?” Ethan asked, his eyes wide, seeking reassurance.

I knelt beside him, lowering my voice. “No, sweetheart. He’s not going to find us. We’re safe here.”

But the truth hung heavy in my chest. I needed to stay strong, not just for him, but for what we were about to face.

Gathering Evidence

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting shadows across the room, Victoria spread out the financial records on the table. “We need to gather more evidence against Arthur before he realizes we’re gone,” she stated, her voice firm.

I nodded, rifling through the pages, my mind racing. “I’ve kept everything I could find over the last few months. It might not be enough, but…”

“It’s a start,” Victoria interrupted, scanning the documents. Her eyes narrowed. “If there’s anything incriminating, it’s worth its weight. We just need to be cautious.”

Time flew as we analyzed each piece meticulously. I felt a mix of dread and determination as we pieced together the extent of his betrayal.

Just as I was about to check one last box of receipts, my phone buzzed on the table, the screen lighting up with Arthur’s name. My heart sank.

“Answer it,” Victoria urged, her eyes locked on me, gauging my reaction.

I hesitated, the uncertainty swirling within me. I swiped to answer, attempting to keep my voice steady. “Arthur?”

“Where are you?” he demanded, the panic bleeding through his carefully constructed tone. “I need to speak to you!”

“I can’t do that,” I replied, trying to sound stronger than I felt. “You deserve everything that’s coming.”

“Teresa, don’t make this harder than it needs to be. I’m worried sick!”

His voice grew sharper, and I could picture him pacing, hands running through his hair. I felt a rush of triumph; he was unraveling.

“Why did you leave?” he continued, desperation rising. “I can explain everything.”

“Save it,” I shot back, my heart pounding. “You made your choices.”

As I ended the call, a sense of unease settled. “He’s panicking,” I whispered, my breath hitching. “What if he finds us?”

Victoria frowned, tapping her fingers on the table. “We’ll be okay for now. But we need that evidence, especially given what you uncovered.”

Suddenly, I caught a flicker of movement through the window—Arthur’s silhouette darting outside, his movements agitated.

“He’s looking for us,” I gasped, my mind racing. “He can’t find us, Victoria.”

Just then, I heard a sound outside that made my stomach drop—a loud crash followed by the unmistakable sound of papers scattering in the wind.

“What was that?” I barely managed to whisper, dread pooling in my gut.

Victoria’s eyes widened as she rushed to the window. “Oh no,” she breathed. “If he’s found the documents…”

“We have to get out of here,” I said, my voice shaking with urgency.

But it was too late; Arthur’s frantic search had led him to the evidence of his own crimes, and I felt the ground shift beneath me. We were caught in his storm.
