I Packed My Son’s Things and Vanished While He Showered His Mistress with Diamonds

Gathering Evidence

The next morning, the chill in the air matched my resolve as I prepared to visit Arthur’s office. “You sure about this?” Victoria asked, concern etched on her face as I adjusted my scarf.

I nodded, my heart racing. “I have to know what he’s planning. It’s time I see him in his element.”

Ethan was at a nearby friend’s house, blissfully unaware of the storm brewing in our lives. As I approached the sleek glass building, I felt a mix of dread and determination.

“I can do this,” I whispered to myself.

Dodging the front desk, I slipped into the elevator, riding to the top floor with a pounding heart. The moment I stepped out, I spotted Arthur and Genevieve through the frosted glass doors of his office.

They were closer than I had imagined, laughing and leaning into each other. I fumbled for my phone and activated the recorder, tucking it in my pocket as I edged closer, careful to stay out of sight.

“Soon, we can leave all this behind,” she said, her voice sultry. “Are you sure everything’s ready?”

Arthur’s face was triumphant. “Just wait until the funds are transferred. No one will suspect a thing.”

I felt ice run through my veins. “Funds? What are you talking about?”

“It’s a bigger scheme than we thought,” I whispered, gripping my phone tighter.

Before I could process this information fully, I heard him mention a large sum, something that could expose everything. I needed to get out, to tell Victoria, but I couldn’t leave just yet—to have proof was imperative.

As I backed away, trying to stay unnoticed, my pulse quickened. I had to expose this fraud, but the risk was greater than I anticipated.

Confrontation in the Shadows

Returning to our temporary home, the weight of discovery pressed heavily on my chest. Victoria was on the couch, sifting through papers, her brow furrowed in concentration.

<p“Did you get anything?” she asked, looking up as I entered.

<p“More than I bargained for,” I replied, and my voice trembled with urgency. “Arthur's involved in something huge. He’s transferring money, and it’s dangerous.”

<p“Dangerous how?” she pressed, her eyes narrowing.

<p“He’s not just cheating, Victoria. He’s committing fraud on a massive scale. We need to act fast before he destroys evidence,” I said.

“We must tread lightly,” she warned. “If he catches wind—”

But my resolve was firm. “I can’t just wait and let him get away with this.”

Suddenly, the lights flickered and then went out, plunging us into darkness. My breath hitched, and I felt a swell of panic.

Then, a knock echoed through the silence, sharp and jarring. My heart raced. “Who is it?” I whispered, dread pooling in my stomach.

<p“It’s me,” came Arthur’s voice, laced with desperation. “I know you’re in there, Teresa. Let me in!”

Victoria and I exchanged terrified glances. “What do we do?” she mouthed, her eyes wide.

<p“I don't know,” I whispered back as the knocking grew more insistent.

<p“I just want to see Ethan!” he shouted, his voice cracking. “You can't just take him from me. Open the door, Teresa, or I swear…”

His threat hung in the air, ominous and chilling. “I’ll destroy everything if I have to.”

We rushed to hide, adrenaline surging through my veins as I realized the lengths he was willing to go to protect himself.
