They’ll Be Sorry They Invited Me
Jonathan Miller stood at the grand wedding venue, surveying the pristine decorations with a self-satisfied smirk. The white roses were perfectly arranged, the crystal chandeliers glimmered like stars above, and he imagined each detail would reflect positively on him and his beautiful bride, Vanessa Collins.
“Isn’t it perfect?” Vanessa asked, her eyes sparkling as she admired the setting. Her designer dress clung to her figure, a stark contrast to the ordinary life Jonathan had left behind.
“It’s a testament to what we’ve built together,” Jonathan replied, his voice dripping with pride. “And to think, Emma will be watching it all unfold. I can’t wait to see her face.”
He chuckled, envisioning her reaction when she received the invitation. Would she crumble? Would she regret leaving? He relished the thought—a delicious revenge served cold. After all, he had traded her for a trophy wife, and today was proof of his success.
Outside the venue, Emma sat in the back seat of a luxury car, the rhythmic thump of her heart mingling with the engine’s hum. She glanced at the twins, their small hands gripping the edge of the seat, and took a deep breath. Ella and Leo were her pride, her triumph over the pain Jonathan had caused. They were her everything.
“Are we really going to see Daddy?” Ella asked, her big brown eyes mirroring the innocence of youth.
Emma hesitated, remembering the way Jonathan had pushed her out of his life. “We’re going to show him that we are just fine,” she said, her voice steadier than she felt. “And we’ll be brave.” The determination bubbled in her chest like a warm tide.
The Moment of Truth
As the car glided to a stop, Emma’s heart raced. She opened the door, and the world beyond was transformed. Guests turned, a wave of gasps rippling through the crowd, silencing the ceremony. Emma stepped out, the twins at her side, both impeccably dressed and the image of vitality.
Jonathan’s smug grin faltered, quickly morphing into shock. The striking resemblance between him and the twins was undeniable; whispers swirled like a restless wind. Was it possible? Did she really move on without him?
“What the hell—” Jonathan breathed out, staring at the children as if they were specters from his past.
Ella waved shyly, her little voice barely above the fervor around them. “Daddy?” she called, innocence shining in her tone.
Vanessa’s confusion was palpable, her expression a mixture of jealousy and disbelief as she gripped Jonathan’s arm. “Who are they?” she whispered sharply. “You didn’t mention anything about kids!”
Emma took a step forward, meeting Jonathan’s eyes squarely. “You never asked,” she said, her voice steady but laced with hurt. “You made it clear you didn’t want anything to do with me, let alone with them.”
Before Jonathan could respond, anger simmered in his gaze, but a shadow crossed his face. He swayed, and his hand went to his chest. “What… what’s happening?” he stuttered, eyes wide in panic.
The crowd gasped again, confusion turning to concern, but Emma’s heart took a leap. Was this fate’s cruel twist? Would she finally see the weight of his arrogance pressed upon him?
Then, Jonathan collapsed, clutching his chest, causing a frenzy of panic as the guests rushed in closer, whispering fears of a heart attack in the air.
