I Installed Cameras to Protect My Baby, But What I Discovered Changed Everything I Thought I Knew

Unveiling the Truth

As soon as the cameras were installed, I felt a blend of anxiety and anticipation. The doctor’s warning echoed in my mind. I needed to know if Hannah’s distress was real or a figment of my sleep-deprived imagination.

Once Brandon left for work, I settled onto the couch, my heart racing. The monitor flickered to life, showing Hannah in her crib. I focused intently on each moment, waiting for something—anything—that would explain her fear.

Time seemed to slip away as I watched. At first, it was mundane; Hannah cooing, reaching for her toys. But then, I noticed it. A shift in her demeanor. Brandon’s footsteps echoed in the hallway from the footage, and Hannah’s tiny body tensed, her eyes darting toward the camera. She didn’t even know he was there yet!

“What the hell?” I whispered, sitting up straighter. I fast-forwarded, eager to find more signs. Each clip painted a clearer picture. Whenever Brandon entered the room, whether he approached her or remained withdrawn, Hannah reacted. Her quiet whimpers became shrill cries. I could hardly breathe as I fast-forwarded through more instances.

“Oh God, what is happening?” I muttered to myself, the weight of my growing terror pressing down on my chest. I kept replaying the same clips, each time anchoring my fears deeper. There was no denying it now. Something was wrong. My gut churned with dread.

I felt trapped. My love for Brandon fought against an instinctual need to protect my baby. How could I confront him with this? Would he believe me? I closed my eyes, trying to steady my racing thoughts. I was spiraling.

Gathering Strength

That night, I invited Florence over for dinner. I needed someone to talk to, someone who could help me make sense of everything. The smell of roasted chicken filled the air as I prepared the meal, but I could hardly focus on cooking. My mind was racing with thoughts of Hannah and Brandon.

Florence arrived just as I plated the food. “Hey, how’s it going?” she asked, her smile bright yet dimmed by my anxiety.

“Not great,” I admitted, gesturing for her to sit at the dining table. “I’ve been having some worries about Hannah and Brandon.”

She met my gaze, her curiosity piqued. “What do you mean?”

Before I could explain, Brandon walked in, his cheerful demeanor brightening the room. “Dinner smells amazing!” he exclaimed, placing a kiss on my forehead.

Unsettled, I watched Hannah sitting in her high chair as he approached her. She suddenly went rigid, her little fists clenching against the tray. I held my breath.

“Why does she do this?” Brandon asked, somewhat exasperated. “It’s not like I’m a monster.”

“It’s just…” I hesitated, glancing at Florence, who seemed just as bewildered. I couldn’t voice the truth, not in front of him.

As we sat down to eat, the uneasy atmosphere hung heavy. To my horror, Hannah began to cry as Brandon leaned closer to the table. Her cries pierced through the room like jagged glass, sending a shiver down my spine. It was heartbreaking and infuriating at the same time. How could he not see it?

“She’s just being fussy,” he said, brushing it off with a wave of his hand.

But it was more than that. I felt the growing distance between us, the rift widening like a chasm. Once the plates were cleared away, I felt my heart pounding as I turned to Florence. “I need to show you something,” I whispered, almost choking on the fear lodged in my throat.

As I excused myself to check the camera footage again, the weight of dread hung heavily on my shoulders. When I sat down and pressed play, I held my breath… only to find the screen empty. Panic surged through me, and I clicked through every clip again, but nothing remained. The footage was gone.

“No, no, no!” My heart raced. It couldn’t be true. It had all been wiped clean.
