Applying petroleum jelly correctly

- Leave the area uncovered; the jelly will stay in place overnight because it is thick enough to stay adhered without a bandage.

The cue that you have applied enough jelly is a noticeable shine on the tag and a slightly raised feeling when you lightly press with your fingertip. If the jelly feels thin or the tag looks dry, add a little more until the surface looks uniformly slick.
Overnight waiting period and what to expect
During the night, the petroleum jelly works by maintaining a moist environment while limiting exposure to air. Most users notice the tag becoming softer within 12‑24 hours. You may feel a slight tingling sensation, which is normal and indicates that the skin is absorbing the moisture.
The tag may change color slightly, turning a bit lighter or pinkish as it softens. Do not be alarmed by this shift; it is part of the natural breakdown process.
