Natural deodorant with baking soda
Combine 1 tsp baking soda, 1 tsp cornstarch, and 2 tbsp coconut oil in a small bowl. Mix until you achieve a smooth, spreadable consistency. Apply a thin layer to clean, dry underarms each morning. The baking soda neutralizes odor, while the oil creates a protective barrier that reduces moisture.
Why it’s effective: Sweat is mostly water, but the bacteria that cause odor thrive in a moist environment. Baking soda raises the pH just enough to deter bacterial growth without irritating sensitive skin.
Potential pitfall: Some people experience mild irritation from the alkaline soda. If you notice redness, reduce the baking soda to ½ tsp and increase the cornstarch proportion.
Baking soda toothpaste for brighter smiles
Mix 1 tsp baking soda with a few drops of peppermint essential oil and enough water to form a thin paste. Use this paste on a soft toothbrush, brushing gently for 2 minutes. Rinse thoroughly. The mild abrasive action polishes enamel, while the alkaline nature helps neutralize acids that cause plaque.
Important note: Do not use this paste more than once a day, as excessive abrasion can wear enamel over time. Reserve it for a weekly brightening boost.
Avoid: Adding too much water, which dilutes the abrasive quality and reduces effectiveness.
