Confronting the Betrayal
“Gloria, how could you let this happen?” My voice trembled with disbelief as I paced the dimly lit office, feeling the weight of betrayal crush my chest. The flickering screen of my laptop reflected my anguish, but I couldn’t tear my eyes away from the chaos unfurling in my mind.
“Oh, Victoria,” Gloria drawled, her tone dripping with mockery. “Did you really think you were ever part of our family?”
The words sliced through me sharper than any knife. “You know that’s not true. I’ve supported Sebastian! I’ve been there every time he needed me!”
“Support?” Gloria laughed, a sound devoid of warmth. “You were merely a stepping stone for Sebastian. Now he has a REAL woman. Young, fertile, sweet…”
Each word was a nail in my coffin. I felt my insides twist into a knot of anger and humiliation. “You think this is over? I’m not just going to walk away from this. I will take back everything he stole!”
“Good luck with that,” she replied, her voice oozing condescension. “You’ll need it.”
As the call ended, the realization hit me like a tsunami. I had given Sebastian everything—my time, my trust, my love. And he had squandered it for a fantasy. It was time to reclaim my life, starting tonight.
Storming the Bar with Lila
“What did she say?” Lila’s voice pierced through the noise of the bar as I slid into the booth across from her. She wore a worried expression, her dark curls framing her face like a halo.
“She thinks I was never good enough for Sebastian. That I should just step aside for Alyssa.” I felt the anger bubbling back to the surface. “It’s insane!”
“You need to expose them,” Lila urged, her eyes narrowing in determination. “People need to know the truth.”
“Expose them? You mean make our dirty laundry public?” I ran my fingers through my hair, feeling suffocated by the weight of it all. “What if it backfires? What if I destroy Sebastian?”
“He’s already destroyed you! Think about it, Vic. You have all the proof you need. This is about taking control back.”
The clinking of glasses around us stirred the air, but the static of uncertainty buzzed louder in my ears. “But I…” My voice faltered. The thought of publicly humiliating him and the whole Hayes family twisted my stomach.
“You have to decide what matters more,” Lila said firmly. “Your pride or your freedom. Which one will it be?”
I glanced at the bar’s neon lights, feeling the pulse of the city outside. I wanted to scream, to break something. “I just… I need to think.”
Just then, my phone buzzed on the table, jolting me from my spiraling thoughts. I reached for it, heart pounding. A message from my attorney flashed on the screen:
“Victoria, we need to discuss a legal maneuver regarding your assets. It’s urgent.”
My breath caught. My entire life felt as if it hung by a thread, and I wasn’t sure if I was ready to face what was about to unfold.
