I Lost My Hair on My Son’s Wedding Day, But I Refused to Lose My Legacy

Making a Toast

With the weight of the world in my throat, I stood before the crowd, heart racing. The joyous music faded as I raised my glass, smiling at Rowan and Selene, who looked radiant under the twinkling lights. “To love,” I began, forcing confidence through the tremors of my hands. “To the promise of forever.”

The guests clinked their glasses, their cheers swirling around me. I pressed on, “Rowan, you’ve always been my pride and joy. And Selene, you’ve brought a light into his life that shines like no other.” I watched as Selene preened under the attention, but something in her eyes reminded me of the sharpened edges of her words.

“Today is a milestone, a new chapter.” I hesitated, then continued, “As you embark on this journey together, I should share that we’ve arranged a future of security.” A ripple moved through the crowd. I sensed Selene stiffen beside Rowan, her smile faltering.

“One hundred twenty million reasons to invest in your dreams, my dear son,” I said, my voice steadying. “But remember, a legacy isn’t measured just in finances.” I glanced at Selene, who looked increasingly unsettled. “It’s built upon the bonds we share as a family.”

“What does she think she’s doing?” I could see Rowan’s expression shift, caught between pride and confusion. The weight of my words lingered in the air as I vowed, “I will protect our family name, no matter what it takes.”

The Crisis Unfolds

After the ceremony, I stepped back, hoping to breathe. The audience was still buzzing from my toast, and I sought refuge outside. Yet, around the corner, I overheard Rowan talking to Selene. “We can discuss the inheritance later.” His tone was flat, almost dismissive.

Panic prickled at my skin. “Later” felt like a thin veil over the truth. Was he really going to postpone this conversation? My mind raced through the implications, desperately grasping the threads of my son’s loyalty slipping away.

Amidst my spiraling thoughts, my phone buzzed in my pocket. I pulled it out, squinting at an anonymous text. “Leave the wedding. You’re in danger.” I paused, heart pounding. Could it be a prank? Or a serious warning?

My instincts screamed for action, and I made my way back towards the reception. There, amidst the laughter and celebration, I spotted a familiar envelope taped to my car window. My heart sank. I quickly snatched it and opened it, revealing incriminating photos of Selene with another man. My world tilted on its axis.

I burst back into the reception, adrenaline surging. “Rowan!” I shouted, holding the photos aloft. The laughter died, and a murmur rippled through the crowd. “You need to see this!”

But as Rowan stepped forward, his expression shifted from shock to anger. “What the hell is going on?” he demanded, glancing at Selene, who appeared unfazed yet calculated. “Mom, this is ruining my special day!”

“These are lies! You can’t believe her!” Selene interjected, her voice sharp. I could hardly process what was happening—Rowan, my own son, was siding with her. “You’re being baseless, and I’m done with this!”
