I Gave My Parents Their Dream Home, But My Brother-In-Law’s Betrayal Turned It Into a Nightmare

Confronting the Family

“Someone call 911!” I yelled, my voice echoing through the chaos. I rushed to my father, kneeling beside him, cradling his shaking hands in mine. “Dad, it’s okay. Help is coming.”

He looked up at me, terror etched into his features. “Lucas… this isn’t right,” he gasped, his breath shallow.

Fiona stepped forward, her voice icy, “You shouldn’t be here, Lucas. This is a family matter.” She waved a dismissive hand, as if my presence was an annoyance.

“A family matter?” I barked, my heart pounding. “This is your family, not a game! Gregory is bullying them!”

“Gregory isn’t bullying anyone. He’s just making sure our parents understand the reality of their situation.” Fiona’s tone dripped with disdain, her eyes darting to Gregory, who stood by the door, arms crossed, a smirk playing on his lips.

“What reality?” I demanded. “That you can take their home? This was meant for them!”

Gregory stepped forward, his bravado seeping through. “Lucas, you didn’t understand the agreement we had. If they can’t handle the house, it should go to someone who can.”

“What agreement?” I shot back, my fists clenching. “There’s no way you believe you have a right to this place!”

“Enough!” Fiona snapped, raising her voice. “You always had to be the hero, didn’t you? Why don’t you think about what this means for us?”

Before I could reply, my father let out a choked gasp, his body collapsing against the floor as his breathing ceased. “No!” I cried, panic flooding my veins as I reached for him.

The world became a blur of sirens and frantic voices, but all I could hear was my father’s fading heartbeat.

The Bitter Truth

The paramedics were swift, carrying Samuel out on a stretcher while I struggled to keep my composure. In the silence that followed, Fiona’s eyes glinted with something I couldn’t quite decipher. It was only when we were left alone in the living room that I confronted her.

“Why would you side with him, Fiona? This isn’t just about the house.” I searched her eyes for the sister I’d grown up with, the one who’d always been there.

“You wouldn’t understand, Lucas. You’ve always been Mom and Dad’s favorite.” Her voice laced with bitterness pierced me.

“I never asked for their favoritism!” I retorted, frustration spilling over. “I just wanted to do something good for them!”

“Good?” She scoffed. “You think buying them a house solves everything? You’ve only made it worse!”

The tension hung thick in the air, both of us breathing heavily as our history unfolded in the spaces between us. “What do you want?” I pressed, desperate for the truth.

“I want to protect my family!” she snapped, the fight leaving her voice. “You don’t get it. You’re not the one who’s been supporting them. You don’t see how Gregory has struggled for this family.”

“Struggled?” I echoed, feeling the weight of her words. “By taking their house from them? That’s your idea of support?”

Before she could reply, I remembered the study. Moving quickly, I stepped towards the door, my mind racing. What if there was evidence of their plan? The thought spurred me on.

As I rifled through the desk, papers scattered around, I found stacks of documents tucked away. My heart raced as I began to read, and my stomach twisted with each line. It was a series of legal papers, marked and underlined, indicating a transfer of ownership to Gregory.

“What is this?” I whispered under my breath, my fingers trembling. “You were going to take it all along?”

Fiona’s face paled, her voice barely above a whisper. “Lucas, you don’t understand!”

But I was too far gone in the revelation, piecing together the trap they had set for our parents. As I turned back to Fiona, my heart sank. My phone buzzed on the desk, but I ignored it. I needed answers.

Then, suddenly, the door swung open. Samuel, frail but alive, stood there—his face drawn and haunted. “Lucas,” he began, his voice shaking, “I need to tell you something…”

“What, Dad?” I urged, the air thick with tension. “What is it?”

“I never wanted to keep the house,” he murmured, eyes reflecting deep regret. “I intended to sell it to… to finance Fiona’s dreams.”
