I Came Home to Find My Family Living Off My Success While My Wife Was Reduced to a Servant

Outside, Daniel Calls Emily

Daniel paced by the park entrance, his phone pressed to his ear, each ring echoing his desperation. “Emily,” he breathed when she answered, “can you come? There’s so much I need to say.”

“I’ll be there,” she replied, her voice trembling slightly. The connection felt like a lifeline as he hung up, his heart racing with confusion and anger.

Moments later, she appeared, her face a mixture of worry and exhaustion. He felt a pang seeing her like this, burdened as she stepped closer, searching his eyes for reassurance that he couldn’t provide.

“I don’t understand,” he said, frustration spilling over. “How did it get so bad? Why are they treating you like this?”

Emily’s eyes shimmered, reflecting the park’s warm afternoon light. “I thought they were helping,” she murmured, her voice cracking. “But it’s more than that…”

He took her hands, grounding himself in the touch. “You’re not just a housekeeper, Em. You’re my wife.”

“I know,” she whispered, tears glistening on her cheeks. “But they—they’ve kept me so busy. I barely have time to think anymore.”

Daniel’s heart ached. “I didn’t know. I thought…” He couldn’t finish. Who had he betrayed more, Emily or himself?

“I feel like I’m drowning, Daniel,” she confessed, her voice barely above a whisper. “And I don’t know how to escape.”

“We’ll figure it out,” he promised, tightening his grip around her hands. “But what else are they hiding? What have you not told me?”

She hesitated, biting her lip, as if wrestling with a decision that could shift everything. “There’s more, but—”

“But what?” he pressed, the urgency in his voice making her flinch. “We can’t have secrets between us. Not now.”

She drew in a shaky breath, her eyes darting away. “It’s just… it’s complicated.”

“No, it’s not. You don’t have to hide anything from me. I’m here.”

But before she could respond, a distant memory whispered through his mind—feeling trapped himself, and he realized this situation was about to change them forever.

Back at the House, A Shocking Discovery

Returning to the house, Daniel was blinded by a sudden surge of anger. The laughter and music felt like daggers in his chest as he stepped inside and paused, the chaos of his family’s celebration ringing in his ears. They were still entertaining, oblivious to the storm brewing within him.

As he walked further in, he overheard snippets of conversation that sent his heart racing. “I mean, we can sell it without him knowing,” he heard Ashley’s voice, sly and casual. “He won’t be back for ages.”

“We can fund our plans with his money. It’s perfect.”

Daniel’s stomach churned. They were plotting to sell his restaurant? The very foundation of everything he had built? How could they even think about it?

“I can’t believe this,” he muttered under his breath, his fists clenching at his sides. “This is why they’ve kept Emily busy, to prevent her from telling me.”

With each word he overheard, the betrayal grew heavier. “They’ve been lying to me,” he thought, his mind racing to piece it all together. “Using my success to fuel their own greed.”

Just as he decided he couldn’t let this go on any longer, his phone buzzed in his pocket. Rapidly, he pulled it out, glancing at the screen. It was one of his business partners.

“Daniel, you need to know… your investment funds have been drained,” the voice on the other end said, tension thick in the air. “We’re not sure how, but it’s serious.”

Cold dread washed over him. “What do you mean drained? How could this happen?”

“Someone’s been moving funds without authorization. You need to look into this.”

He felt a tightness in his chest, his thoughts racing. His family was behind this, he could feel it. With every second, the feeling of betrayal solidified into a solid knot in his gut. They weren’t just stealing from him; they were tearing apart the life he’d worked so hard for.

Turning to leave, a glint of light caught his eye. A letter sat on the kitchen counter, partially tucked beneath a pile of paperwork. Curiosity flared as he approached, and as he unfolded the letter, words leaped out at him like a snake striking.

“Your mother has been siphoning funds to cover debts from dangerous individuals…”

His heart dropped. This could ruin everything. This could endanger Emily. The weight of the revelation crashed over him like a tidal wave, leaving him breathless as he fought against the rising panic. Who could he trust now?
