Condition cuticles and nail beds
Cuticles can become dry, ragged, or inflamed, especially after frequent hand washing. VapoRub’s blend of oils and menthol can soften the cuticle skin, making it easier to push back gently and keep the nail bed healthy.
Take a small amount—approximately a pea‑size dollop—on your fingertip. Rub it onto the cuticle area, focusing on any raised or cracked spots. The warm sensation signals that the product is penetrating the skin.
Allow it to sit for a few minutes; the cue that it’s working is a slight softening when you press the cuticle with a cuticle pusher. You can then gently push the cuticle back, being careful not to force it.
Do not use this method on infected or bleeding cuticles. If you notice redness or swelling after application, discontinue use and consult a healthcare professional.
For a longer‑lasting effect, apply the VapoRub nightly before bed and wear a cotton glove to keep the ointment from rubbing off onto your sheets. The overnight period gives the ingredients ample time to moisturize and protect the delicate skin.
Prevent hair streaks when dyeing at home
When you dye your hair at home, the liquid dye often runs onto the forehead or eyebrows, leaving unsightly streaks. A thin barrier of VapoRub can repel the dye, keeping those areas clean.
Before you begin the dyeing process, apply a very thin line of VapoRub along the hairline, just above the eyebrows and on the sides of the forehead. Use a cotton swab to spread it evenly; the amount should be barely visible—a light coating.
The cue that the barrier is ready is a faint, oily film that feels slick to the touch but does not look glossy. When you apply the dye, it will bead up on the VapoRub and be easy to wipe away.
After the dye has set, gently wipe the VapoRub away with a damp cloth. The menthol may cause a tingling sensation, which is normal and indicates the product is still present.
A common pitfall is applying too much, which can cause the dye to spread unevenly or create a greasy line. Keep the layer as thin as possible, and remember that a little goes a long way.
If you have very sensitive skin, test a small patch of the VapoRub on your forehead for a minute before the full application to ensure there is no irritation.
